Privacy Policy
Roadsake is a journal of the routes and trips you take. Your trips stay on your iPhone. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. We receive only what you choose to send us as feedback.
Who we are
Roadsake is made by Hao Ye, an independent developer in Australia (“we”, “us”). If you have a question about this policy, email feedback@roadsake.masonships.app.
What Roadsake keeps on your iPhone
While you record a trip, Roadsake uses your iPhone’s precise location to draw the route and measure its distance. It keeps recording when the screen is locked or you’re in another app, until you end the trip, and shows the trip on the Lock Screen while it records.
For each trip, Roadsake saves:
- its route: the places it passed and when;
- when it started and ended, how far it went, and the time zones it passed through;
- the names of places along it, such as the suburb or town where it started and ended;
- the notes and marks you add, and the journey it belongs to.
When no trip is recording, Roadsake uses your location only to show where you are on the map while the app is open. That location isn’t saved.
All of this is stored by the app on your iPhone. It isn’t sent to us, and we can’t see it.
Services provided by Apple
Some features use services that Apple provides as part of iOS. Apple handles that information under its own privacy policy.
- Maps. The maps in Roadsake are Apple Maps.
- Place names. To name the places a trip passes, Roadsake sends a few of its locations, such as where it starts and ends, to Apple’s place-name service. Apple returns the names, and Roadsake saves them with the trip.
- Siri and Shortcuts. If you ask Siri to start, end or mark a trip, or to add a note, Apple processes your request and Roadsake receives only the action or the note.
- Backups. If your iPhone backs up to iCloud or to a computer, the backup includes Roadsake’s trips, so they come back when you restore it. Roadsake doesn’t sync trips between devices.
- Crash reports and usage statistics. If you choose to share analytics with app developers (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple gives us crash reports and statistics about how the app is used, in a form that doesn’t identify you.
Beta testing with TestFlight
If you test Roadsake with TestFlight, Apple shares with us the crash reports and feedback you send, including any screenshots, along with information about your device and how you use the beta. If we invited you by email, we can also see your name and email address. You can stop testing at any time in the TestFlight app.
Sharing a trip
When you share a trip or a journey, Roadsake draws its route on a plain card, without a map, and leaves out the very beginning and end of the route, so the picture doesn’t show exactly where you started and finished. You choose where it goes with the share sheet, and the image carries no location data. If you save it to Photos, iOS asks you to let Roadsake add photos; Roadsake can’t see your photo library.
Feedback
When you use Send Feedback in Roadsake, we receive:
- your message;
- your email address, only if you enter one so that we can reply;
- any screenshots you add. You choose them with the iOS photo picker, so Roadsake sees only the ones you pick. Screenshots of a map can show places you’ve been;
- the app version, the iOS version and your iPhone model, which the form lists before you send it.
Your feedback reaches us through Cloudflare, which passes it on to our email. Cloudflare handles your IP address while doing so, under its own privacy policy; we don’t keep it. If you email us instead, we receive your email address and your message.
We use feedback only to reply to you and to improve Roadsake. We don’t share it, and we delete it when we no longer need it.
What we don’t do
- There is no account or sign-in.
- There is no advertising, and no analytics or tracking code from other companies.
- We don’t track you across other apps or websites, and we don’t sell your information.
Your choices
- Location. You can change Roadsake’s access to your location at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Roadsake. Roadsake needs Precise Location to record a trip; without it you can still look back at the trips you’ve saved.
- Delete a trip. Open the trip and choose Delete Trip from the ⋯ menu. Its route and notes are deleted from your iPhone.
- Delete everything. Deleting the Roadsake app deletes all its trips from your iPhone. Copies in earlier backups remain until those backups are replaced or deleted.
- Feedback. If you gave us your email address, you can ask us to delete the feedback you sent.
Changes to this policy
If Roadsake starts handling your information differently, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches you in an update.
